dry ingredient preparation
dedicate02

Our dry ingredient pre-mix preparation includes two distinct steps.

Step One is the preparation of Anitra Frazier’s Vita-Mineral Mix - In a large storage container, combine the following ingredients, which can each be purchased at your local health food store:

1 1/2 Cups of Brewer’s Yeast Powder, for a cat with normal urinary tract health (for quite some time, we left this out due to Mickey’s FUS and the struvite urinary crystals that developed; the yeast tends to alkalinize the urine.)

1/4 Cup of Kelp Powder

2 Cups of Wheat Bran

BARF dry ingredient preparation2 Cups of Bone Meal (Nutritional, Not Gardening Grade)

1 Cup of Lecithin Granules

Mix well.  Based upon using one container of “Dry Mix” for each 6-meal (3 meals for each cat) portion in each of the wet ingredient containers, we add one teaspoon of the Vita-Mineral Mix to each of our small storage containers.  The rest of the mix goes into the freezer to prevent spoilage.

Step Two is the addition of other supplements to each of the containers of Vita-Mineral Mix. To each container of [6 teaspoons of] Vita-Mineral Mix, we add:

240 mg of L-Taurine, a critical amino acid of which cats need at least 80 daily.  Heart muscle and raw meat are great natural sources, but we’re hard pressed to find hearts.

1500 mg of Vitamin C, in the form of Ascorbic Acid with Bioflavanoids.

150 mg of Vitamin B Complex.  If your cat suffers from struvite urinary tract crystals (from urine that is too alkaline), you may use this in place of the Brewer’s Yeast called for in Anitra Frazier’s Vita-Mineral Mix.  We did this for quite some time, but several months ago, we went back to the Brewers Yeast and Mickey hasn’t suffered from any blockages since we went back.

1 1/2 Human portion of Digestive Enzymes.  We use bovine enzymes in half of the containers, and a papaya/peppermint variety in the other half.

1 Teaspoon of Probiotic Powder, a source of active digestive cultures that we purchase from B-Naturals.

200 mg of Neo-Natal Calf Thymus or Glandular Complex.
